298th Scouts – Birmingham Silvermere

The Scout Leader reached out to MGMFC to see if we could attend on one of their evenings and help the Scouts attain their air activities badge.
We were more than happy to assist, and split the Scouts up into 3 groups for the evening…
Group 1 discussed model aircraft types, how primary and secondary control surfaces work and how models fly in general.
Group 2 were creative in folding and flying paper airplanes, using a couple of standard designs, and ones they made up themselves. Control tabs, and small weights were added to experience how they flew differently.
Group 3 had a hands on experience on a model flying simulator where they could explore how a model fly’s and how different it feels to be stood on the ground controlling one.

Scouts are do-ers and give-it-a-go-ers. They go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing.
The Scouts hang out with friends every week – having fun, playing games, working in a team and taking on new challenges.
Every week, almost half a million 4-25 year olds the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams: the skills they need for life.
Everyone’s welcome at Scouts. All genders, races and backgrounds. Regardless of your young person’s physical ability – there’s a Scout adventure out there waiting for them.
