Air Cadets 165 Sqn
A new initiative for MGMFC for 2025 was to reach out to local organisations that have an interest in aviation and to introduce the club and what we do to a younger generation. The local air cadets branch were approached and they absoloutely loved the idea and invited us along to a meeting night where we were able to discuss model flying directly with the cadets, with the evening split into 3 sections and the cadets into 3 groups.

Group 1 were discussing model aircraft types and a got to experience model glow fuel engine and an engineering discussion around the models and type of power used.
Group 2 were folding and flying paper airplanes, either from some plans we bought along or from their own creations, a small competition was had for the furthest flight.
Group 3 had a hands on experience on a model flying simulator where they could explore how a model fly’s and how different it feels to be stood on the ground controlling one.
The cadet leadership at 165Sqn were particularly drawn to the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) element of model building and flying and we hope to undertake more outreach programs with them and across the Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing of the Air Cadets in the future.
The Air Training Corps (ATC), part of the RAF Air Cadets, is a UK-based voluntary youth organization supported by the Royal Air Force. It offers young people aged 12-20 opportunities to develop leadership, teamwork, and citizenship skills through activities related to aviation, adventure training, and the wider RAF :-
